Let’s talk about building trust with potential clients. What’s one of the best ways to build trust with your clients across all touch points– website, social media profile, sales page etc? Testimonials. 

You could be on the verge of signing a client contract, but sometimes at the end of the day, there is nothing you can do that’s going to move your client closer to trusting that you’re the coach for them than seeing a mirror image of themselves-– someone with the same problems, feelings, and struggles– getting the results they’re looking for. Cue– client testimonials. 

But… what if you’re a new coach, and you haven’t actually worked with clients yet? 

I’m going to break down two super simple ways to get client testimonials as a new coach:

1. PRO BONO SESSIONS. I always encourage new coaches to flex their coaching muscles– start coaching. 

Ask family members and friends who are a great fit for your work, and set clear guidelines so it leaves little room for confusion. For example 4 weeks of coaching in exchange for a written and video testimonial. Ask only those who have a great history of follow-through. 

2. OFFER AN EXCHANGE OF SERVICE. I LOVE this option. It allows someone who truly wants your help with an area they’re struggling with to be coached by you and you have the opportunity to hand off work that you don’t care for (and it’s their area of expertise). 

For example, you can offer them coaching in exchange for X amount of hours as a virtual assistant, graphic design, video editing, Facebook page set-up, social media management, youtube set-up, etc. As always, make sure to set clear expectations so it’s a win-win for both you and your client. 

Both of the options I listed above will give you an opportunity to be of service… and since you signed up to be a coach, I want you to flex your coaching muscle– and you do that by actively coaching others. I hope this helps get your wheels spinning about how and where to place client testimonials ahem— sprinkle it everywhere.
